- Jussie Smollett has seen 16 felony charges dropped in exchange for community service and forfeiting his $10-thousand bond.
- While prosecutors are clear that he has not been exonerated at all, even that they believe his guilt…Smollett has cheered his “innocence.”
- Now some murky connections between the Cook County Prosecutor’s Office and Smollett’s team have been revealed.
As we told you before, Chicago Police and Mayor Rahm Emanuel are positively livid about the felony charges against Jussie Smollett being dropped. As you’ll recall, prosecutors are saying they absolutely believed in his guilt, but allowed him to wash it away with community service and forfeiting his bond. Now police are taking things one step further.
A Freedom of Information request has Chicago Police are releasing redacted reports of their investigation into Smollett – and the records show that officers were able to get a warrant for Smollett’s iCloud account, reviewed the information and shared it with the FBI. What else has been revealed? The fact that Cook County State’s Attorney Kimberly Foxx was apparently communicating with the family in the early days of the investigation…before she recused herself.
After her recusal? Foxx apparently tried to persuade Chicago cops to turn the case over to the FBI – at the family’s request. While Foxx maintains that she played no role in the controversial decision to drop all the charges in the case, she also says that Smollett was afforded the same opportunity that anyone in Cook County would get for a nonviolent offense. Maybe, maybe not…an internal memo leaked to Chicago’s NBC5 has revealed that just yesterday, Foxx requested prosecutors go through their files and offer her a list of cases that were disposed in a manner similar to Smollett. Apparently, they came up with two – one for theft, and one for pot possession.
- Much like Smollett, his lawyer Tina Glandian is maintaining his innocence and says he’s weighing his options as far as taking legal action against the city of Chicago.
