We all now that Willie Nelson is a big pot smoker and advocate, and he’s convinced he wouldn’t be here today if I wasn’t for his herb. In an interview with “Rolling Stone” Willie, who turned 86 yesterday, says he started smoking pot in 1978, after giving up cigarettes and Whiskey, and he believes that’s the secret to his longevity.
“I wouldn’t be alive. It saved my life, really. I wouldn’t have lived 85 years if I’d have kept drinking and smoking like I was when I was 30, 40 years old,” Willie shares. “I think that weed kept me from wanting to kill people. And probably kept a lot of people from wanting to kill me, too — out there drunk, running around.”
Willie also notes that smoking pot helps him forgive and forget a lot. “You don’t dwell on sh*t a lot,” he says. “The short-term thing they talk about is probably true, but it’s probably good for you.”
- As for how much he smokes, Willie says he’s high, “pretty much all the time.” “I’m kind of the canary in the mine, if people are wondering what happens if you smoke that sh*t a long time,” he shares. “You know, if I start jerking or shaking or something, don’t give me no more weed. But as long as I’m all right . . .”
