Gratiot County will be paying off over 44 outstanding loans by winter. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest on loans taken out to finance drain installment projects has left the county owing rather than paying off the loans for years. The Morning Sun says the plan will be included in the 2018-19 fiscal year budget, which needs to be approved by the commission before it goes into effect by Oct. 1.
