Congratulations are in order for Jennifer Lopez and Tyler Perry. The two will be honored at the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards tonight. They’re being recognized for changing the game.
J-Lo says she was determined to be herself – a Latin actress with a big butt – but not be stereotyped. “I really feel and operate with that sensibility… that there’s nothing that I could not accomplish if I wanted to. From very young, I never wanted to be put in a box,” she explained. As for Tyler, he opened up his 330-acre Tyler Perry Studios to be a beacon for children. “A lot of these poor, Black faces can see that I came from the same circumstances that they came from, and I was able to make it, and I was able to rise.”
