High water in the Great Lakes may be bad news for the piping plover, an endangered bird that builds its nests on shorelines. Vincent Cavalieri of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says as water rises, plovers move closer to areas where they’re vulnerable to predators. The most recent count last year found 67 breeding pairs of plovers.
