The Detroit Pistons selected Marquette University power forward Henry Ellenson with the 18th overall pick in Thursday night’s NBA draft. 19-year-old Ellenson averaged 17 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots in his single season playing for the Eagles. The Pistons added more depth, selecting Syracuse shooting guard Michael Gbinije in the second round with the 49th overall pick.

Elsewhere in the draft, the Chicago Bulls selected Michigan State guard Denzel Valentine with the 14th overall pick. Valentine became the highest selection from the Spartans since Jason Richardson went 5th overall in 2001. In a surprise choice, Michigan guard Caris LeVert went 20th overall to the Brooklyn Nets, after many thought he would go late in the draft.
