A 36-year-old Gratiot County man sentenced to life in prison back in 1998 for killing a substitute teacher was re-sentenced on Monday. Garry Steffenhagen now has the chance to face a parole board in nine years. Steffenhagen murdered William Sklener during the 1998 attempted armed robbery at the age of 17. The re-sentencing comes as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling last year that juvenile lifers should be re-sentenced with guidelines that allow the possibility of parole.
