Baseball isn’t my favorite sport to watch…basketball and football are higher on my priority list, but live baseball is different. It’s an atmosphere that is fun to be a part of, it’s being outside on a sunny day, and it’s enjoying the difference in every ball park that’s out there. So, I may not catch the game everyday on TV, but i try and make it to as many live games as possible. Here are my three favorite things about live baseball.

1) The Atmosphere- This is especially true in Michigan…Going to a baseball game is one of the sure signs that summer is on the way. Just last week the loons opener was postponed. Many of our local high school teams have their first games cancelled. However, when you finally get to a game, it starts to feel like summer. One of the things i dislike about watching baseball on TV is the pace, but that is no concern when you are at a beautiful ball field on a nice day.  The slow pace goes from annoying to enjoyable!

2) Food- Every ball park you go to from high school to the majors always has a lil’ twist on something. It could be a walking taco, a foot long hot dog, or that random high school that has fresh cut fries. You never know, just as ball parks are not tied down to dimensions (like a basketball court or football field), the food can be just as different from stadium to stadium. The only drawback can be the price, but it’s worth it every time in my experience.

3) The Home Run and the walk off- I have never been in a baseball stadium for a walk off home run, but that would be awesome (more on that shortly). I prefer basketball and football to baseball, but there isn’t anything cooler in sports than the home run, especially if its a walk off. The batter literally gets to circle the pitcher around the bases, and the pitcher just has to stand there! Don’t tell your kids, but it is a lot of fun telling a pitcher how bad he is after your team just hit a homer off of him. The walk off is the ultimate sports moment…the game is over when the batter crosses the plate, but they can take their sweet time, here is how awesome a walk off home run can be, as that homer sent the Tigers to the World Series. I would have loved to be at that game, and ever since I saw that, one of my bucket list sports items is to be at a tiger game for a walk off home run.

So head out to watch a game this year; you will see a unique ball park everywhere you go. There will be great food, sometimes just as unique, and if your lucky you will get to see a home run, maybe even a walk off.
