Midland County’s overall rank for child well-being is 11th — out of 82 qualifying counties — according to the 2019 Kids Count in Michigan. Some of the key findings of this year’s report, is that nearly one in five kids in Michigan live below the federal poverty line. The rate of child abuse and neglect has continued to rise in Michigan, by 30 percent from 2012 to 2017 as well.
