• Emma Roberts has opened up for the first time since splitting with Evan Peters
  • She says that it’s hard to lose someone, but even harder to date in the public eye
  • She’s learned that life is a series of highs and lows that you have to ride out

Emma Roberts has spoken out for the first time since she and Evan Peters broke off their engagement. In a new interview for the June issueof Cosmopolitan, she gets candid about the ups and downs of relationships… especially those in the public eye like her relationship with her “American Horror Story” co-star.

The actress gets real and says that “losing something is hard,” but she’s come to realize that “life is highs and lows” that you have to learn to “ride out.” “When you’re low, you think it’s never going to end. When you’re high, you’re scared of it ending,” she notes. “I’ve lived in both of those places for too long.”

As for dating in the public eye, Roberts wishes that she could have more “private moments”… but the age of social media, on top of media attention, makes it “difficult.” “It’s hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience,” she adds. “Because of [social media], everybody can comment on what you’re doing and no one knows the real story… I know what’s true, and so do the people that love me and who I love.”
