Well after a couple great weeks of playoffs…There is nothing left in our area except two teams.  Sanford Meridian and the Beal City Aggies, as they compete for Regional Titles this coming weekend!

Sanford Meridian is still alive in Division 6 after upset wins over Ithaca and Hemlock to win a district championship since 2007, things don’t get any easier for the Mustangs in the Regional.  They will face off against D6 powerhouse Montague, a squad looking to get back to the D6 finals in Detroit.  However, the Mustangs have really embraced their underdog role and are definitely playing their best football of the year; with a great defensive game to beat Ithaca 19-14, then the offense really showed up last week vs Hemlock besting them 35-21!  If Sanford Meridian can bring the D from Ithaca and their O from Hemlock they could be one game away from the state finals!  Sanford Meridian plays at Montague Saturday at 1 o’clock!

That brings us to the Beal City Aggies who just won their first district title since 2014 Friday night in the snow at JoBerg Lewiston High School 33-20!  The Aggies will now face the Ishpeming Hematites from way up in the UP, almost to Wisconsin.  These two teams have played one time in 2014 when they faced off in Gaylord.  Ishpeming a D7 team at that time won on a sloppy field 20-0, both teams went on to make deep playoff runs.

Fast forward to 2019, and this Ishpeming team is in a new conference and their attendance has dropped them in to D8…The Hematites are 9-2 on the season, however 4 of those 9 wins are over Bark River Harris and Lake Linden Hubbell.  They do have an impressive win 28-0 over a 7 win Iron River team, but in my opinion I don’t think the Hematites played a schedule near as tough as the Aggies.  Beal City has wins over Houghton Lake, Morley Stanwood, Lake City, St Ignace, and Joberg Lewiston.  While Ishpeming had 2 rematches in their districts the Aggies had to face two new teams, that all being said I think the Aggies are more prepared for this contest played Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt Pleasant’s Community Memorial Stadium. This game can be heard on 92.3 FM, AM830, and worldwide at My1043.net, and on your My1043 Mobile App!

So turn on The Wolverine Spartan game, but give it a mute and tune into Spach’s Sports Show at 12:30 and kickoff at 12:45 live from Mt Pleasant’s Community Memorial Stadium as the Aggies look to win some more hardware!
