- Another R. Kelly accuser has come forth.
- Lanita Carter was his hairdresser when he forced himself on her.
- She’s one of the accusers in his 10-count criminal case.
- She said that watching “Surviving R. Kelly” and seeing him speak with Gayle King made her want to tell her story.
R. Kelly’s hairdresser has come forward as his latest accuser. Lanita Carter is one of the four anonymous accusers in his 10-count criminal case, and she told her story on CBS This Morning.
Lanita was 24 when the incident occurred in 2003. At the time, she considered him to be more than a client. She looked at him like a big brother and even stood up for him when he was arrested on child pornography charges in 2002. According to Lanita, he was a perfect gentleman.
Carter had been working with him for about a year when she got a call to come do his hair on February 18th, 2003. “When he came to the room and he asked me for that head massage, and I told him I didn’t do massages, I laughed it off. And I didn’t know he was for real,” Carter said. What she went on to describe was him forcing her to perform a sex act as he spit on her. He only stopped when someone knocked on the door. “If I could change that day – I wouldn’t have been there,” she said.
- Lanita called the cops the same day and gave them her favorite Tommy Hilfiger shirt that had R’s DNA evidence on it. At the time, there were no charges filed. Ten months later, she settled with him for $650-thousand dollars. He denied wrongdoing and she agreed to keep quiet. In 2009, he released a song about having sex with a braider that hit a little too close to home for Lanita. She ended up settling with him again for $100-thousand dollars. In addition to denying wrongdoing, he also agreed not to perform the song again.
- When “Surviving R. Kelly” prompted Cook County state’s attorney Kimberly Foxx to ask for victims, Lanita decided to come forward. She added that watching Kelly speak to Gayle King made her want to tell her story even more.
- Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, says Carter’s allegations were fully investigated by the cops. “A decision was made, after evaluating all of the evidence, not to bring charges,” he said.
