Rumors that the Queen movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” put a lot of coin in the band’s pocket simply aren’t true.
Band founder Brian May should know and he’s shutting down the speculation. It was reported in the U.K. that the movie had increased May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon’s personal fortunes by over 25 million dollars. May said in an interview with BBC, though, that it hasn’t made them any money.
He still commended the movie and its lead actor, Rami Malek’s portrayal of former Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. “Bohemian Rhapsody” pulled in over 900 million dollars in the worldwide box office, and won four Oscars.
May said he doesn’t know when Quuen will make money from the film and that so many people get a piece of the pie, that they may never see any revenue.
