Disaster recovery centers in Isabella and Midland counties will close permanently at 2 p.m. Saturday.
After the centers close, survivors with losses from the June storms and flooding have other options for accessing Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster assistance.
They can register for help, learn about the appeals process, or check the status of their claim by:
• visiting DisasterAssistance.gov;
• Calling 800-621-3362; TTY users can call 800-462-7585;
• Those who use 711 or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362; and
• Michigan Speech to Speech Relay Services: English: 866-656-9826 and Spanish: 866-656-9827. Operators are multilingual and calls are answered from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. EDT seven days a week.
The centers are located at 4855 E. Bluegrass Road in Mt. Pleasant in Isabella County, and at Carpenter Street School, 1407 W. Carpenter St. in Midland in Midland County.
The deadline to register online for FEMA disaster assistance is midnight on Monday.
FEMA assistance is nontaxable and will not affect eligibility for Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid or other federal benefits.
The center in Isabella County had been open since Aug. 11.
