The recent avalanche of sexual misconduct allegations against celebrities has claimed a second morning TV host.
Matt Lauer is out at NBC’s “Today” effective immediately. NBC News Chief Andrew Lack sent a memo to staff overnight saying the network had received a complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by the long-time “Today” Show co-host.
Savannah Guthrie, joined by Hoda Kotb, made the announcement this morning, choking up as she talked about her partner’s firing. They also stressed that the “reckoning” taking place in society should lead to equal treatment for all in the workplace.
In his memo, Lack noted that while this was the first complaint about Lauer, other evidence presented shows it may not have been an isolated incident. The statement also says the network is deeply saddened by the situation.
The 59-year-old Lauer had hosted “Today” since 1998.
