For the 40th year in a row, entertainers honored at the Kennedy Center are agreeing with President Trump that he did the right thing by staying home. “We happen to have somebody in the White House who doesn’t care about the arts and humanities,” said legendary TV producer and writer Norman Lear. “I think he was smart to stay away and stay out of town — which is something he does on weekends anyway. Nothing new.”
Last night’s Kennedy Center Honors recognized Lear, award-winning singers Gloria Estefan and Lionel Richie, rapper/ actor LL Cool J, and dancer Carmen de Lavallade [[ Lav-uh-lahd ]].
As you might recall, the White House announced in August that Trump and First Lady Melania Trump would not attend so the artists could enjoy the honors without any political distraction. They also skipped hosting the annual post-event reception. The Kennedy Center Honors will be broadcast at 9pm ET December 26th on CBS.
