MIPs will soon no longer be considered misdemeanors in Michigan, but civil infractions. Once the change begins, a person’s first MIP will result in a $100 fine along with court costs, which differs from the current $100 fine and up to 90 days in jail. However, a civil infraction will still appear on a person’s driving record.
