Well it is that time of year again…Winter has officially become a nuisance and you even get a tease or two of spring…Maybe a random 40 degree day..Or pitchers and catchers reporting for baseball.
The Tigers are still the Tigers, but this year will be different from the last few. Coming into each year with Verlander and Cabrera the thought was always playoffs and hopefully World Seires…Well this will be the first year with no Verlander who made 9 opening day starts for Detroit. Cabrera is still in the D, but has been a shell of himself as father time remains unbeaten.
So what is there to look forward to with this Tigers team? Michael Fulmer has got to be at the top of that list, he made his first all-star appearance last year and will look to become one of the top pitchers in the game this year.
Cabrera, yeah he is getting older, but at 34 he could have a resurgent year and that would be a lot of fun for fans as he closes in on some records! Cabrera will not reach the 3000 hit mark this year, but with 64 hits will become the 69th member of the 2700 hit club and if he had 164 hits would become the 52nd player with 2800 hits. Cabrera can also become a member of the illustrious 500 home run club if he bashes 38 out of the park, he would be only the 28th to do so in MLB history!
So this season may not be great, but try and bask in the glow of Detroit having one of the best young pitchers in the league and a no doubt hall of famer beginning to close his career for the tiggies!
