- Taylor Swift has been more open about her political opinions in the recent times.
- …but she’s always been supportive of the LGBTQ community
- Now, she’s made a massive donation to a Tennessee equality group fighting some phobic legislation
She may not have been super vocal politically over the years, but Taylor Swift has always been a big supporter of the LBGTQ community. Now? She’s opened up her wallet to help even more. Chris Sanders, leader of the Tennessee Equality Project, just revealed that Taylor has donated $113-thousand to the organization to help them fight a series of anti-LGBTQ bills in the state.
“I’m writing you to say that I’m so inspired by the work you do, specifically in organizing the recent petition of Tennessee’s faith leaders standing up against the ‘Slate of Hate’ in our state legislature,” Taylor wrote in a handwritten note. “Please convey my heartfelt thanks to them and accept this donation to support the work you and these leaders are doing. I’m so grateful that they’re giving all people a place to worship.”
Chris shared the note on Facebook, adding, “She sees our struggle in Tennessee and continues to add her voice with so many good people, including religious leaders, who are speaking out for love in the face of fear.”
- The group, along with the Human Rights Campaign, is trying to stop what is being called the “Slate of Hate” bills, six bills that among other things, seek to ban gay marriage, make it illegal for transgender people to strip down in locker rooms or bathrooms, and discriminate against people when it comes to adoptions.
