Michael Che is paying tribute to his grandmother by paying rent for the tenants in her building. The “Saturday Night Live” star is covering it for a month for 160 apartments in a New York City public housing project.
The “Weekend Update” correspondent can’t understand why New York City public housing residents are still expected to pay rent when so many people are out of work due to the coronavirus crisis. As we told you, Che’s grandmother died as a result of COVID-19.
Michael says that his contribution is just a drop in the bucket. He wants the city to develop a better plan for debt forgiveness for anyone living in public housing.
