As you’ll likely recall, the case against Jussie Smollett over faking his alleged 2019 attack was suddenly dropped. The initial criminal charges were dismissed in a deal that had him perform community service and forfeit his $10-thousand bond. Outrage followed and the Chicago Police Department sued – seeking $130-thousand to recover the costs of the investigation.

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx took a lot of heat – and maintained that Smollett was treated just like any other defendant…even though evidence proved otherwise. Now special prosecutor Dan Webb has declared that while they did nothing criminal, Foxx and her assistant prosecutors handling of the case was marked by disarray and misleading statements.

Like what? Telling the press “that $10,000 was the most Mr. Smollett could have been ordered to pay” when there’s no such cap and falsely claiming that Smollett had no criminal record, despite his previously disclosed DUI conviction. There’s been no comment from Foxx or Smollett at press time.
