Paramount Pictures’ Elton John biopic “Rocketman” is officially out – and it’s rated R, despite past reports that certain scenes were going to be censored to obtain a PG-13 rating. The man himself has penned an article for The Guardian where he gets real about why he wanted an R-rating.

Elton has revealed that he fought for the R-rating. He says that the simple fact is, “I just haven’t led a PG-13 rated life.” But it’s not like he wanted “a film packed with drugs and sex” or anything – he just wanted to make sure the film was an accurate depiction of his life and legacy.

“But everyone knows I had quite a lot of both during the 70s and 80s,” he notes. “So there didn’t seem to be a point in making a movie that implied that after every gig I’d quietly gone back to my hotel room with only a glass of warm milk and the Gideon’s Bible for company.”
