Awakwafina has been keeping herself busy with work as her form of social distancing. But she’s taken a break from being “away” to speak up about the state of things, writing a powerful statement about the “rhetoric” and “cruelty” she’s witnessed as a result of coronavirus.

While she doesn’t name names, her words come as President Donald Trump continues to call COVID-19 “Chinese virus” – Awkwafina is the latest in a string of Asian-American celebrities to condemn the term. Taking to Instagram, Awkwafina says she’s “saddened” by the situation, urging everyone to self-isolate, and “stay sane and calm” during this time.

To wrap things up, she brings attention to what really deserves folks’ attention. “I [also] worry for those who are most at risk for serious illness, the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions,” she adds. “I will be locking myself up for the next 2 weeks rewatching the Tiger King.”
