A 38-year-old Evart man was airlifted with serious injuries after being clocked doing twice the 25 mph speed limit and then fleeing from a city officer in Evart, state police at the Mt. Pleasant post said.
An Evart officer clocked the man doing more than 50 mph in the 25 mph zone about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday and pursued the motorcycle for speeding and careless driving, police said.
“The pursuit continued down Evart side streets with the driver of the motorcycle failing to stop for the fully marked patrol vehicle with lights and sirens activated,” police said.
The motorcycle driver crashed trying to negotiate curves on 85th Avenue near River Road in the Evart area, northwest of Farwell.
An ambulance first took the motorcyclist to Reed City Hospital and he was then transported by helicopter to another hospital, police said.
He was not wearing a helmet.
The driver is in serious but stable condition, police said.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
