Efforts are concentrated in an area bounded on the north by M-20, on the east by East County Line Road, on the west by Geneva Road and south to Salt River Road.
Police a bit after 11 a.m. were preparing a Code Red alert to residents in the area.
The shooting victim and another adult were both sleeping when they heard voices and a Mt. Pleasant woman was eventually shot, according to Isabella County Sheriff Michael Main.
The Mt. Pleasant woman was in surgery early Wednesday morning after being airlifted to a trauma center as police continued to search for two suspects, one of whom is believed to have shot her.
Main said detectives are interviewing the man who was home and not injured and officials are not yet clear on what preceded the shooting.
He said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and does not believe there is a public safety concern.
Officials do not believe anything was stolen and do not know why the suspects broke into the home.
Police have given no descriptions of the suspects.
The shooting occurred at a home northeast of Mt. Pleasant, near the corner of Baseline and Loomis Road, about 7:30 a.m.
The victim told police she did not know the shooter.
Meanwhile, McLaren – Central Michigan hospital was briefly being put on lockdown while police searched for the suspect, and a helicopter was called to take her to a trauma center.
Detectives on the scene were getting photographs, looking for additional evidence and seeking a tracking dog to assist in the search.
Meanwhile, Isabella deputies and other officers were looking in the area roughly from the shooting scene east toward Oil City, including searching some homes.
