A fierce pitching duel broke out at Saginaw Valley State University on Tuesday. When the dust settled, the Shepherd Bluejays season came to an end in a 1-0 loss on the softball diamond to Millington in state quarterfinal action.
Haley Buckley allowed only three Millington hitters to reach base. Her final line was 3 hits and three strikeouts, allowing one unearned run in the loss. Millington pitcher Taylor Wright gave up five hits, while striking out 10 Bluejays for Millington.
Offensively, Shepherd was paced by shortstop Bailey Brown, with two hits. Aubrey Nelson, Ashleigh Bryant and Audrey Nelson also reached base for the Bluejays. With the loss, Shepherd ends their season at 34-7.
