A Las Vegas classic crumbled to the ground earlier this week in a blaze of glory. Opened in April of 1955, the Riviera resort on the Las Vegas Strip shut it’s doors to guests in May of 2015 after several years of declining guests and financial difficulties. The hotel’s parent company, Riviera Holdings, filed for bankruptcy in 2010.
In February of 2015, sources confirmed future demolition of the hotel to make way for a large addition to the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Over the years, the Riviera hosted a variety of Vegas entertainers. Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Liberace and Dean Martin all performed at the hotel. In recent years, the resort became lost in the fold with a slew of newer, upscale resorts on the Strip.
