October must see movies
There are a lot of good movies out in theaters right now, some with star power featuring actors such as Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg.
Sully- We all remember the plane amazingly landing on the Hudson River several years ago. Well of course they made it into a movie. Tom hanks stars as Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger the pilot of that fated airplane. Miraculously, all of the 155 passengers and crew survive the ordeal, and Sullenberger becomes a national hero in the eyes of the public and the media. Despite this, the pilot now faces an investigation that threatens to destroy his career and reputation. The movie does a great job following the emotion filled stories of several passengers as well as Captain Sully himself. This movie is highly recommended by yours truly!
Magnificent Seven– This remake tells the tale of a small town called Rose Creek. A greedy industrialist seizes control of the town looking for gold. The town decides to put its faith in bounty hunter Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington) for help. Chisolm recruits an odd group of misfits and gunslingers to take on the greedy industrialist and his men. Ethan Hawke starts alongside Denzel Washington as on of the Magnificent Seven.
Deepwater Horizon- Just as well remember the plane landing on the Hudson, who can forget the tragedy that was the Gulf Oil spill in April of 2010. This tells the little (I hadn’t heard it) told story of the folks who were actually on the rig when the Horizon drilling rig explodes. Chief electronics technician Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg) and his crew now find themselves fighting for survival as the heat and the flames become stifling and overwhelming. The crew must team up in order to make it out alive.
Masterminds- I haven’t decided if this movie is going to be great or terrible, but with Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis together I feel that I have to give it a shot. In the movie, David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis) is stuck in the monotony of driving an armored truck day in and day out, so when his work crush lures him into the heist of a lifetime, David’s all in. Despite being a moron along with his friends and an absurdly flawed plan, David manages to steal millions, and promptly hands it over to the gang — who just as promptly double-cross him. Forced to go on the lam, David must dodge the authorities along with others while trying to get back at those who ripped him off.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children- Based on the novel “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children,” written by Ransom Riggs. This seems to have somewhat of a Harry Potter type feel. A movie that is made for children, but not a three year old, more like a ten or thirteen year old. In the movie Jake’s beloved grandfather leaves Jake clues to a mystery that spans different worlds and times, that leads Jake to a magical place known as Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children. But the mystery and danger deepen as he gets to know the residents and learns about their special powers – and their terrifying enemies
All of these movies are playing at our local cinemas in Alma, Mount Pleasant, and Midland…and stay tuned to My1043 for chance to win free NCG movie tickets!
