Kevin Smith realizes that he wouldn’t have a career if it weren’t for Harvey Weinstein. But like everyone else, the director is disgusted by the allegations of sexual misconduct. Unlike everyone else, he’s decided to do something about it.
Smith will donate the residuals from his Weinstein-connected projects to Women in Film, a non-profit organization that advocates for progress and gender parity in the industry. The films he made with Harvey include “Clerks,” “Clerks II,” “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” “Jersey Girl,” and “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.”
If The Weinstein Company happens to go down and the residuals stop, Kevin says he’ll donate $2-thousand dollars a month to Women in Film for the rest of his life. He’ll also his mentorship if they need it. “Hopefully that goes to people that get to make [ish] without having to deal with some [freaking] animal saying, ‘Here’s the price.’”
