Rumors spread over social media among parents and students alike over the weekend as a police investigation indicated so far that a threat of violence against Mt. Pleasant Middle School is unfounded.
A note and voice message sent to parents of children who attend the school from Superintendent Jennifer Verleger Sunday said a possible threat was posted on social media Saturday and immediately reported to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
That police investigation will continue over the coming weeks and days, but right now indicates there is no credible threat toward the school and its occupants.
“Please know that the safety of your students and our staff is our top priority,” Verleger wrote. “I want to assure you that this type of situation will be treated very seriously and we will work closely with MPPD throughout their investigation.”
