Priscilla Presley appears to have become the latest celebrity to leavethe Church of Scientology. According to the “Daily Mail,” she told her friends, “I’ve had enough. I’m done,” after almost 40 years.
According to an insider, Priscilla joined the controversial cult after Elvis Presley’s death. “[She] reached out to John Travolta…and that’s how she ended up in the church. She…raised her daughter, Lisa Marie, in it.”
Lisa Marie quit the church in 2014 – a move that made things hard for Priscilla. “They are very close as a family and leaving the church has been a family decision. Lisa later noted, “I was slowly starting to self-destruct. They were taking my soul, my money, my everything.” Still, so far, Priscilla’s rep hasn’t commented.
- It’s easy to see why Priscilla’s reps might keep their lips zipped. Members who have “left quietly” – such as Katie Holmes, Jason Lee, Demi Moore and Nicole Kidman – haven’t really seen any blowback from the organization. On the flip side, those who have been more vocal, such as “Chicago P.D.” star Jason Beghe, filmmaker Paul Haggis…and of course Leah Remini – have been savaged and say they’ve endured a number of attacks personally and professionally. . As Haggis puts it, leaving the “evil cult” puts everyone at risk because of the personal information gathered during ‘auditing’ sessions. “Everyone who’s left has left quietly,” Haggis notes. “Everyone is so scared; all the well-known people.’
