City Looking Into Having Voters Name Mayor

* Mt. Pleasant city commissioners are studying whether the city’s mayor should be elected directly by voters. Switching to an elected mayor would require a change in the city charter. Commissioners approved a $4,000 budget amendment for a study by the CMU Center for Applied Research and Rural Studies (CARRS) to look into other cities that have an elected mayor.
