The Clare Pioneers got revenge from last year’s overtime thriller defeating Beal City 42-20 Friday night in Beal City. The Pioneers struck early when quarterback Travis Vida connected with wide receiver Brendon Sersaw. That was Sersaw’s first of three touchdowns for the evening. Tyler Rodenbo then returned a Beal City interception for a touchdown. Clare quickly went up 14-0. After an exchange of fumbles, Lucas Schumacher returned a Travis Vida interception for a touchdown, cutting the Pioneer lead to 14-6 before halftime.
The second-half began with a dominant performance by the Clare offense. Brendon Sersaw struck early with a 78-yard touchdown run, and then caught two more touchdown passes from Travis Vida, and the Pioneers looked in control with a 35-6 lead.
Kyle Yuncker provided the spark Beal City needed, returning a second Travis Vida interception for a touchdown. As the fourth quarter began, Brett Upton ran for another Beal City touchdown, and the Aggies cut the lead to 35-20. Brandon Zinser added an insurance touchdown on the ground for Clare.
Brendon Sersaw absolutely dominated on offense for Clare, with over 400 yards combined offense and four total touchdowns. For his performance, Sersaw received our JNR Engraving Player of the Game honors.
Clare travels to Gladwin next week to play the Flying Gs. Beal City travels to Pine River.
We head back to Mt Pleasant next week to see the 0-2 Oilers try and pick up their first win of the season against Saginaw. The Oilers fell 49-14 tonight against Davison.
