The minimum wage in Michigan will get bumped up to $12 per hour under a series of bills just passed by state lawmakers. The proposal would have gone on the November ballot, if the state legislature didn’t pass it first. The situation is causing some concern because lawmakers can still amend or repeal the new wage, which would have been more difficult to do if voters had passed it instead. As of right now, they’ve agreed to gradually boost the state’s minimum wage and require “paid” sick leave.
